Why is this medication prescribed?

Ketolides, such as telithromycin, are indicated for treating acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, and mild to moderate community-acquired pneumonia, including infections caused by multidrug resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, in patients over 18 years in age.
